      1. Introduction. This paper is the third in a series of palaeoecological studies investigating benthic trilobite associational composition across the South China Plate during the Arenig-Llanvirn interval (see also Turvey and Zhou, , Turvey and Zhou, ).The present study focuses on the abundant early Ordovician faunas of southern Shaanxi, which is situated on the present-day .       Some of these were described in illustrated catalogues, such as those published in conjunction with F. McCoy and J.W. Salter, and included many fine trilobites from Wales. Murchison's researches were published in a splendid and copiously illustrated memoir, published in and entitled The Silurian System, founded on geological researches in. Arenig-Llanvirn platformal trilobite faunas have never been completely described, but are under study by J. Shergold and R. A. Fortey. Pelagic elements are the same as in other circumequatorial faunas, but the benthic faunas include a number of curious endemic genera, including a bizarre local radiation of .

The Biodiversity Heritage Library works collaboratively to make biodiversity literature openly available to the world as part of a global biodiversity community.   1. Geological and stratigraphical setting, and faunal affinities. There are a considerable number of publications on the Cambrian trilobites of Iran (Kushan, , Peng Shanchi et al., and references here) but for a long time only a few Ordovician trilobites have been described in a short paper by Pillet () and recently a more comprehensive study with a description of 20 Ordovician.

The progressive alternations of trilobite biofacies spectra indicate that continual transgressions may have played an important role in a consecutive palaeogeographic development in the Yangtze Block, including mainly the drowning of the huge platform in the early Arenig (early Floian) (TI 2), the shoreward expansion of the deep outer shelf (TI.
